John D. McCallum, III joined Connecticut Orthopaedics in 1995 after completing a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the Rothman Institute of Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. The Rothman Institute is considered one of the nation’s leading training programs in joint reconstruction.
A graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. McCallum completed a surgical internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. He served as Chief Resident at UMMC from 1993-1994. He also earned a Master’s degree in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University.
Currently, he is the Medical Director of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center program he established in collaboration with multiple members of Connecticut Orthopaedics. His is also an instructor at Yale University School of Medicine and an attending physician at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. McCallum has written a number of articles in orthopaedic journals and has presented orthopaedic grand rounds at Yale-New Haven and Thomas Jefferson Hospitals. He has been on the faculty of multiple national hip and knee reconstruction meetings and a presenter at the annual national meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. McCallum, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon is a member of the American Medical Association, the Connecticut State and New Haven County Medical Societies. He is also a member of the Connecticut State Orthopaedic Society, Yale Orthopaedic Association, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Dr. McCallum specializes in knee problems including arthritic and sports related injuries. He has been an innovator of hip and knee arthroscopic surgery, salvage and reconstructive techniques, including minimally-invasive treatments with a special interest in orthopeadic knee replacement surgery.
He lives with his wife and two children in Guilford, CT. Besides his family, his interests include cycling, sailing, skiing, woodworking and car restoration.
