Video Transcript
Sports medicine is a specialty within the field of orthopaedic surgery. We’re specialty trained physicians that go through a lengthy course in our training where we learn how to treat athletes. We learn how to get athletes back on the field, back on the court, back to doing what they love as soon as possible! We treat a bunch of different athletes whether it be the young 11 year old dancer, the 15 year old football player, even going on the patient that’s 55 years old and just wants to stay active in the gym, stay healthy, stay mobile. So, we really treat a broad range of individuals. So, after my orthopaedic residency which is a five year training program, I was lucky enough to be selected to train under Dr. James Andrews – who’s kind of the orthopaedic surgeon to the stars. He’s a well well-renowned surgeon that really treats a lot of professional athletes, be it the NFL, NHL, major league baseball. I was able to train under him for a year and really work side-by-side with him and learn his techniques. And learn how to treat athletes with the latest and greatest, as far as the cutting edge technology and surgical techniques. So, my goal is to get the patient back to where they wanna be as soon as possible, there’s a lot of different injuries that sometimes can takes month to recover from whether it be non-operative or operative. And my goal is to get the patient on board right away and say look this is our goal, we’re gonna get you to it, this is how long it’s gonna be and I want us to get there as soon as possible and as safely as possible. If you’re in an active career, if you’re in an active sport, you’re gonna put certain rigors on your body that sports medicine specialists have a unique advantage towards treating.
