Robert E. Kennon, MD

Robert Edward “Ted” Kennon, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine, completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Yale, and pursued fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction with the Keggi Orthopaedic Foundation. Dr. Kennon serves as Director of Joint Replacement at the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at MidState Medical Center. Since 2004, he has performed more than 11,000 joint replacement procedures and has extensive experience in anterior hip replacement, robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement, hip resurfacing, and complex revision surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Robert Edward “Ted” Kennon earned his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine (1999), both in Atlanta. He then completed a general surgery internship at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a residency in orthopaedic surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation of the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut (2004). Dr. Kennon continued his training with a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction with the Keggi Orthopaedic Foundation in 2005.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Kennon maintains privileges at the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute (COI) at Midstate Hospital where he is also the Director of Joint Replacement. He also maintains privileges at Lighthouse Ambulatory Surgery Center in Hartford and the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute (CJRI) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he previously was Director of the Bioskills Laboratory and member of the institute’s steering committee before he transitioned to doing most inpatient surgeries from St. Francis to Midstate Hospital in 2023.

Dr. Kennon is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Dr. Kennon has performed over eleven thousand joint replacement surgeries since 2004, including anterior approach total hip replacements, Birmingham hip resurfacings, robotic MAKO minimally invasive total knee replacements, and robotic total hip arthroplasty. Dr. Kennon is also one of the few surgeons in the state with extensive revision arthroplasty surgery experience.

Dr. Kennon sees patients in our Middlebury and Farmington offices.
