Dr. Kelms Amoo-Achampong is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon with specialized expertise in surgical sports medicine. He focuses on diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions affecting the shoulder, hip and knee. His specific areas of surgical expertise include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, cartilage repair techniques of the knee, hip arthroscopy for treatment of hip labral tears and shoulder arthroscopy for treatment of rotator cuff and shoulder labrum injuries.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Amoo-Achampong developed a deep passion for sports during his high school years, where he excelled in football. This passion propelled him to pursue a college career as a member of the Division 1 football team at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. Driven by his love for sports, he pursued an undergraduate degree in Health and Societies, followed by an MD from the renowned Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

During his orthopaedic residency at Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Amoo-Achampong discovered his true calling in sports medicine. He had the privilege of working with Duke and North Carolina Central University collegiate sports teams, including football, men and women’s basketball, where he honed his skills in providing comprehensive care to athletes of all levels.

To further refine his expertise, Dr. Amoo-Achampong pursued a fellowship in sports medicine at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), globally recognized as the number one ranked Orthopaedic Hospital. There he served as an assistant team physician for the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty professional basketball teams. This intensive training allowed him to gain invaluable experience and knowledge in advanced surgical techniques, ensuring the highest level of care for his patients.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr. Amoo-Achampong enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Mia and dog, Demi. He additionally enjoys traveling, exploring different cultures,
and indulging in his love for music. He has maintained his passion for fitness, further fueling his understanding of the physical demands athletes face.
