Dr. Thomas Zumbaugh is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Certified Wound Specialist Physician specializing in complex lower extremity wound care and limb preservation. His clinical focus includes surgical reconstruction of chronic wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, traumatic soft tissue injuries, and amputation prevention. Dr. Zumbaugh provides surgical and office-based wound care for patients throughout Connecticut as part of the New England Wound service line at Connecticut Orthopaedics.
Dr. Thomas Zumbaugh is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine specializing in lower extremity wound care, limb preservation, and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. He treats patients with chronic and complex wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, infections, and traumatic soft tissue injuries, with an emphasis on limb preservation and functional recovery.
Dr. Zumbaugh earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, graduating as Salutatorian with Summa Cum Laude honors. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, where he served as Chief Resident in the Division of Podiatric Surgery. Most recently, he served as a founding partner and physician at Indy Wound Center for Limb Preservation and Reconstruction and was instrumental in creating the Franciscan Center for Limb Preservation in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Zumbaugh is board-qualified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician and Diplomate of the American Board of Wound Management. He recently presented work on staged limb salvage at the 2026 Philadelphia Advanced Limb Preservation Meeting, with additional research presented at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care, Spring 2026.
Dr. Zumbaugh resides in Southport and enjoys running and hiking in northern New England as well as spending time with his wife and two dogs.
