Connecticut Orthopaedics Announces Partnership With SCSU Athletics & Recreation

Southern Connecticut State University Athletics & Recreation Interim Director of Athletics Matt Letkowski has announced a partnership with Connecticut Orthopaedics as an Official Owls Sponsor for the 2023-24 academic year. The agreement includes the creation and dedication of the Connecticut Orthopaedics Student-Athlete Wellness Center, which is set to be unveiled at the beginning of the Spring 2024 semester.

“As we continue to explore opportunities to enhance our student-athletes’ experiences, their health and well-being are always at the forefront of those efforts,” Letkowski said. “I’m excited to partner with Connecticut Orthopaedics, and I appreciate its support in the creation of the Connecticut Orthopaedics Student-Athlete Wellness Center. Connecticut Orthopaedics has an incredible reputation as one of the most well-respected health care providers in New England and I’m excited to have them as part of the Owls family.”

In addition to the commitment of Connecticut Orthopaedics in sponsoring the Student-Athlete Wellness Center, Connecticut Orthopaedics provided a $5,000 matching gift for The Owl Way Campaign, which ran through Homecoming on Oct. 14, 2023, as well as support for the annual AD Social Networking event, the annual Owls Golf Classic at Lake Of Isles at Foxwoods Resort and Casino, and National Girls and Women In Sports Day on Feb. 3, 2024.

Connecticut Orthopaedics CEO, Susan Bader said, ” We are thrilled to join the Owls family and I know that Dr. Jordan Gruskay and the rest of our CO team will provide exceptional care to their student-athletes. I think one of the most exciting things happening is beyond the sidelines with a true academic partnership. We are working diligently to create a pathway to careers in health care for SCSU students on a campus-wide scale. This will include internship and clinical training programs as well as flexible job opportunities throughout our organization. Connecticut Orthopaedics currently has over 650 employees and we are pleased to be able to nurture these future healthcare professionals as they consider their choices for the future.”

Dr. Jordan Gruskay is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and sports medicine specialist. A Connecticut native, growing up less than 10 minutes from SCSU, he is excited to work with and take care of the student-athletes. He completed his orthopedic residency at the top ranked orthopedic hospital in the world, the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), where he discovered his passion for sports medicine, treating athletes from the New York Giants, Mets, Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets. Additionally, he currently works with the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and US Ski team.

Dr. Gruskay said “I look forward to working alongside the excellent training staff at SCSU to take great care of these student athletes as they compete at the college level. My goal is to ensure a seamless journey from on-field evaluation to rapid diagnostics and definitive treatment. Utilizing our all-inclusive orthopaedic services, we will be able to facilitate a quick and safe return to sports, providing tailored solutions every step of the way.”

In addition, Connecticut Orthopaedics will also be the Official Gameday Sponsor of SCSU Basketball’s rivalry game against University of New Haven at James Moore Field House on Feb. 13, 2024.
