Full Biography

Dr. deMeireles is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement and adult reconstruction. He provides comprehensive care for patients with hip and knee arthritis and other conditions affecting the hip and knee, with expertise in minimally invasive joint replacement, complex revision joint replacement, and hip fracture surgery. He specializes in direct anterior and mini-posterior approaches to hip replacement as well as robotic-assisted joint replacement, using advanced technology to optimize implant positioning and joint function.

He takes the time to understand each patient’s symptoms, activity level, and goals and works with them to develop an individualized treatment plan. When appropriate, treatment may include nonsurgical options such as physical therapy, medications, or injections. When surgery is recommended, he uses modern surgical techniques and technology to help patients safely return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. deMeireles graduated from Yale University, where he was a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team, before earning his medical degree and business degree from the University of Michigan. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Columbia University, with additional trauma surgery training at The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. During residency, he received the Harold M. Dick Award for Resident of the Year and was selected by faculty and his peers to serve as Administrative Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. deMeireles completed fellowship training in adult reconstruction (joint replacement) at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute.

He has published dozens of articles related to arthroplasty in leading orthopedic journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The Journal of Arthroplasty, and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, as well as several book chapters on hip and knee replacement. He has also been invited to speak at state, national, and international orthopedic surgery conferences.

Dr. deMeireles is committed to providing personalized, evidence-based orthopedic care to patients throughout Connecticut. He lives on the Connecticut shoreline with his wife and their dog, Steve. In his free time, he enjoys running, watching lacrosse, and rooting for the New York Giants.
