
Mark W. Scanlan, M.D. joined Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists in 2005 as a
board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon with a specialty in surgery of the upper extremity and
fracture care.
After graduating with honors from Duke
University, Dr. Scanlan obtained his medical degree from Columbia University where he was
inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He
then completed a year of general surgical training at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center
in New York City followed by orthopaedic training at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital of
Columbia University. After finishing his
residency in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Scanlan completed a fellowship in hand and elbow
surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases/New York University Medical School. Following this he traveled briefly to Florida to
study trauma surgery at Tampa General Hospital with Dr. Roy Sanders.
Dr. Scanlan is a member of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery
of the Hand. He is an attending surgeon
and clinical instructor at Yale New Haven Hospital/Yale University School of Medicine and
the Hospital of Saint Raphael.
Dr. Scanlan has published articles
in the hand surgery and trauma surgery literature. His
areas of interest include adult and pediatric fracture care and surgery of the hand, wrist
and elbow. He lives with his family in Branford,
CT.
