- John D. McCallum, III joined Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists, P.C. in 1995 after
completing a one year fellowship in total joint replacement arthroplasty at the Rothman
Institute of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. The Rothman Institute is
considered one of the nation's leading programs in training for joint reconstruction.
- A 1989 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. McCallum
completed a one year surgical internship at the school's Pennsylvania Hospital before
pursuing a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at the University of
Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. He served as chief resident in
that department from 1993-1994. He has also earned a Master's degree in Physiology and
Biophysics from Georgetown University School of Medical Graduate Studies, and a Bachelor's
degree in Biology from Dartmouth College.
- A clinical instructor at Yale-New Haven Medical Center.
- Dr. McCallum has written a number of articles in orthopaedics journals and presented
orthopaedic grand rounds at Yale-New Haven and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. He
has been on the faculty of multiple national hip and knee reconstruction meetings and a
presenter at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Dr. McCallum, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, is a member of the American Medical
Association (AMA), the Connecticut State, New Haven County, and Milford Medical Societies
and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He specializes in hip, knee
and shoulder problems including arthritis, and sports related injuries. He has been a
leading innovator of hip and knee revival techniques and as arthoscopic surgery of the hip
joint. He also is performing partial knee replacements in patients with limited knee
arthritis.
- An avid athlete, Dr. McCallum particularly enjoys cycling, wind surfing and triathalon
competitions.
