John M. Beiner, MD, is a Board-Certified Orthopedic surgeon with a specialty in
cervical spine, adult and pediatric degenerative and pediatric spinal disorders.
Born near Los Angeles, Dr. Beiner graduated cum laude from the University
of California, San Diego. He moved to New Haven in 1992 for medical school at Yale
University School of Medicine. Graduating in the top ten percent of his class, he
was inducted into the honorary medical society Alpha Omega Alpha. He remained at
Yale for his internship in General Surgery and residency in Orthopedic Surgery, and served
as Chief Resident in 2001-2002. Awarded a fellowship at one of the top programs for
Spine Surgery in the United States, he completed his training at ThomasJeffersonUniversity
and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. There he learned traditional spinal
surgery methods as well as studying the most modern, cutting-edge techniques of
nonoperative and operative management of spinal disorders. His training prepared him
to deal with a wide range of degenerative and traumatic spinal disorders. Working
with Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists since 2003, Dr. Beiner is part of a group of 16
specialists dealing with the range of musculoskeletal disorders. He has a particular
interest and expertise in problems related to the cervical spine.
Dr. Beiner is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons,
the North American Spine Society, and the American Medical Association. With
attending privileges at Yale-NewHavenHospital and the Hospital of St. Raphaels, he
remains involved with resident education in the surgical and outpatient clinic setting. He
has presented at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine
Society, and has given numerous Grand Rounds at Yale and ThomasJeffersonUniversity.
He has published widely in the Orthopedic and Spinal Surgery literature.
Dr. Beiner is married to Melissa, a pediatrician. They live in Madison
with their two children. An avid outdoor and sports enthusiast, Dr. Beiner enjoys
windsurfing, running, swimming, weight lifting, duathlons, triathlons, basketball, and
catamaran and monohull sailing. His home hobbies also include woodworking and
furniture-making.
