New Haven, CT -- 2011 has become a year of growth for Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists. Their new state-of-the-art Surgical Center has opened its doors in early June, making Branford their largest of 7 facilities. Branford now proudly houses a medical office, OrthoNOW Emergency and Walk-In Care, an MRI Center, Star Physical Therapy, and now a customized Surgical Center used exclusively by their group of 18 physicians.
"We had our own Surgical Center in Hamden", says CEO Glenn Elia, "but that facility housed only 2 operating rooms. We had outgrown our space and were looking to expand. Branford now has 3 operating rooms and a new Pain Management Room, thereby enhancing our ability to better treat more of our patients needs."
First Selectman of Branford, Anthony DeRos, did the honors by cutting the ribbon on June 30. There was a gathering of over 50 people who came to enjoy a tour of the new facility given by Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists’ physicians and surgical center employees.
Branford’s Chamber of Commerce President, Ed Lazarus says, "It’s nice to know that Branford has a cutting edge surgical center located in our community. These centers are nice, not just for the patient, but for the family too. When it comes to quality care, we don’t have to drive far to be spoiled." Patients will find our location convenient with easy, free parking.

Hamden, CT -- Two senior student athletes – Katie Winkle (Sacred Heart Academy) and Jack Singleton (Guilford HS) – are the initial recipients of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists’ "Comeback Player of the Year" scholarship award. Both students will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used for their college education.
A corporate sponsor of the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC), Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists P.C. (COS) offered a Comeback Player of the Year Scholarship for one male and one female athlete who participated in an interscholastic sport during the 2010/2011 season, and showed great leadership both on an off the field after their severe injury. Coaches and school’s athletic directors nominated these student-athletes after they each suffered an unfortunate injury that prohibited them from play during their high school careers.

It was less of a hot stove morning than a family visit with two of Yale’s sports giants, teammates, and later professional athletes who reached the pinnacle of their respective sports.
With George Grande serving as moderator/favorite uncle during the third Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Hot Stove Breakfast at Long Wharf Theater Wednesday, nearly 200 area sports fans in the audience were on the inside of a family reunion that began at the age of 14 when Rich Diana — recalled by Ron Darling as "that chubby kid from Connecticut" — dusted Darling in a foot race at a scouting event in Massachusetts. Four years later, they coincidentally found themselves reporting to the freshman football team at Yale.
